Treatment Approach
Atlas Pain and Spine uses a multi-modal, individualized approach that aims to identify the source of a person's pain rather than masking symptoms alone. The clinic places emphasis on interventional techniques that may help reduce or eliminate the need for long-term pain medications.
Conditions the clinic addresses include:
- Neck and back pain, including cervical and lumbar radiculopathy
- Spinal stenosis, bulging discs, and degenerative disc disease
- Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) and other neuropathic pain conditions
- Fibromyalgia, arthritis, bursitis, and joint pain
- Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS/RSD)
- Migraine, occipital neuralgia, and facial pain
- Chronic post-surgical pain and sports injury pain
Dr. Whealton has been featured on WYMT TV discussing newly FDA-approved treatments for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, reflecting the clinic's effort to offer current options for people living with this condition. Treatment services include injection treatments, radiofrequency ablation, medication management, and diagnostic services.
What Patients Can Expect
Appointments are recommended, though the clinic may accommodate walk-in patients. The Richmond location offers full wheelchair accessibility, including an accessible entrance, parking lot, and washroom.
The clinic acknowledges the distinct healthcare challenges faced by people in the Appalachian region and structures its care to serve those communities, including patients who may have limited access to specialty pain care elsewhere. Provider Larry Armfield, APRN, has a specific background in serving medically underserved populations, which is reflected in the clinic's broader mission.
People seeking evaluation for a new or ongoing pain condition are encouraged to schedule an appointment to discuss which treatment options may be appropriate for their individual needs.

What Patients Say
Patient Testimonials
“One of the worst doctors I've been to. They cross contaminated my drug test, called me in for a pill count but due to thanksgiving I was out of state and wouldn't be back til that Monday. Well that just wasn't good enough and they decided that my contract was ended. The doctors don't listen to how you're feeling and are extremely unprofessional. I wouldn't give them a second chance if my life depended on it.”
— Angela Charles
“The staff is so friendly. I am in and out quickly. The MA SKYLER is so sweet. I also love the PA ANA. They make sure I am taken care of in a timely manner. Kudos to an amazing team. Special thanks to the lead MA Brianna Eastes. She's definitely a keeper.”
— Tabitha Perritte
“Things seem to change in the last month with the staff. The new company they get to test for things are getting miss tested. They wanted a pill count and I said ok nothing to hid. Then they said they wanted to count my other meds that my other doctor give me not them. I'm going to see the doctor and get this fixed. They can keep the pain pills I don't care. The staff treat me very well. Never had an issue with anything. Had a couple of procedures done didn't help but received a referral to see an ortho.”
— Kris Traylor
