Pacific Pain Physicians in San Luis Obispo holds a 4.5 out of 5 rating across 129 reviews, reflecting a genuinely mixed but mostly positive patient experience. On the clinical side, patients often mention feeling heard and respected by the physicians, who are described as approachable, attentive, and knowledgeable. PA Brian Sullivan is frequently praised for taking time to explain procedures and set realistic expectations. Multiple reviewers note meaningful reductions in their pain levels and express sincere gratitude for the care they received. However, reviewers note a consistent gap between the quality of clinical care and the reliability of front office operations. Complaints include appointments cancelled without notice, miscommunication that left patients turned away after long drives, and poor follow-through on promised call-backs. More serious concerns involve patient information spoken aloud in the lobby, insurance authorizations that were never submitted, and at least one patient arriving to find the office unexpectedly closed. Long-term patients have also described feeling abruptly dropped due to policy changes, with little communication or transition support. For those whose experiences run smoothly, Pacific Pain Physicians appears to offer attentive, capable care. Prospective patients may benefit from confirming appointments in advance and following up directly on any administrative matters.
What Patients Say
Patient Testimonials
“Told my appointment was at 1:30 confirmed on the phone the night before. Arrived at 1:33 and was told we were 15 minutes late and they wouldn't see us. Drove over 30 minutes and the lobby was empty. Receptionist insisted that they only schedule in 20 minute increments and that no one would have told us 1:30 so we were simply wrong. Instead of being so dogmatic she could have simply sympathize but instead added insult to injury with the "have a great rest of your day" comment as we were leaving. This put a monkey wrench into the day as the next appointment we have is a cancer appointment. :(”

“Sent there for hip pain and will go back for another issue, everyone was kind and professional he is amazing approachable attentive and sensitive to you when treating me and really great person/ Doctor”
— Marla Lowman
“They are abandoning their patients. I've been a patient for years and had 5 surgeries with them. In the last several months they have dramatically changed their policies to block patients from getting care in any sort of reasonable timeframe, leaving them in pain for an unethical amount of time. Today I was informed that all Botox services would cease after I've spent weeks trying to get my routine treatment and jumping through countless hoops for them. They have no plan, no referrals, no support for patients that have been having this pain service with them for years. I can't fathom how they think this is the way to treat patients.”
— Lacey Jensen
“Worst office experience. If you don't care if you personal information is yelled across the lobby, ok. Or that the scheduling staff cancels appointments without letting you know, please this may be your place. I let the staff know this was not ok with me. Oh, and they had another patient getting mad cuz he had to wait. He got so mad, after he growled at me that it was my fault (ha!) try blaming the appropriate people dude! Plus he was using curse words. Did the staff do anything? Nope. So go here is you are a Masochist. This is my story and my opinion.”
